Eighteen-Year-Old Norwegian Female teenager becomes poker millionaire.
September 17, 2007 1:55 pm wsop, pokerA teenager from Norway where it is illegal to play live poker for money has become an overnight millionaire by winning the main event at the World Series of Poker(WSOP) in London. Her name is Annette Obrestad.
The 18-year-old Norwegian played masterfully over the course of the 5-day 10,000 pounds buy-in No-Limit Texas Holdem Championship, outlasting a field that included the strongest showing of professionals in European poker history. Obrestad shut out veteran American professional players by winning all three WSOP bracelets up for grabs. At final she won over 22-year-old John Tabatabai of London with her 777 beat his two pair.
She won the 1 million pounds, or $2,013,102, first-place prize and the most coveted prize in all of gaming, a World Series of Poker(WSOP) 18 karat gold and jewel encrusted bracelet.
Poker for money is banned in Norway and few poker clubs in Oslo were recently closed but Obrestad started playing five-card stud with her father and became a regular online at the age of 17.
